Approach
My approach to therapy is holistic and collaborative. Together we’ll explore your strengths and the healthy coping methods you’re already using, as well discover new strategies and skills you can use to improve your overall sense of well-being. We’ll delve into the various ways you can make changes in your life—personally, professionally, and in your relationships with others.
I incorporate elements of various modalities into my work with clients, including psychodynamic, relational, existential, cognitive-behavioral, somatic, parts work, as well as self-compassion, acceptance, and mindfulness based approaches. I’m informed by attachment theory, neuroscience, and the connection between the mind and body.
I find it helpful to understand and explore the underlying causes of the struggles you’re experiencing. I always look at the context in which feelings of distress have developed— be it from a combination of formative experiences, unresolved trauma, the dynamics and quality of your relationships, societal messaging, and cultural expectations.
I believe people heal in relationship with others, including within our therapeutic relationship. I’ll bring warmth, curiosity, open-mindedness, and my sense of humor into our work. You’ll be encouraged to show up as you are. I want to see all facets and parts of you—what causes you pain, makes you laugh, and brings you joy.
With each individual, couple, and family I work with, we’ll focus on what's most important to you in each session. The techniques and interventions I use will be tailored to your unique needs. I'll meet you where you are and work at a pace you find comfortable. I'll point out recurring themes that show up in our discussions, supporting you as you make connections and gain new insights. I'm always interested in hearing your takeaways at the end of our sessions, what thoughts and feelings come up for you in between sessions, and how you're feeling about our work together.
I'll also encourage you to notice and become curious about what you're feeling in the moment. Instead of avoiding difficult emotions, our sessions can help you become better able to identity, express, and accept these feelings, as well as acknowledge they are temporary and can shift.
While change can be uncomfortable at times, I believe it is ultimately more painful to stay stuck. Together we'll explore what holds you back and gets in your way. I'll help you gain clarity around your needs, wants, and values so you can start making more intentional choices in all areas of life.
You don’t have to be defined by your past. You can rewrite old narratives that no longer benefit you, overcome limiting beliefs, reconnect to yourself and others, and begin to take steps that can lead to growth.
